We recently had the pleasure of welcoming two TMJ apprentices — Freddie McGlade and Luke Newton — to join us on-site for a week’s experience.
Freddie spent his time with us at Project Leapfrog, getting involved in a range of practical tasks from first fix joinery to assisting with flat-pack unit assembly and Tea Point installations. He worked closely with our experienced carpenters, gaining a valuable understanding of how joinery transitions from the workshop to a live construction environment.
Luke joined our team at Project Crystal and experienced a broad spectrum of activities throughout the week. He learned how Corian worktops are installed, helped with WC cubicle fitting, assisted with wall panelling snagging and supported the first fix of joinery zones. He also took part in a DABS meeting with our site team and joined our Regional Health & Safety Manager, Lamara Martin, on a site visit to Triton Square to support a live H&S audit — giving him a deeper insight into safety management across multiple projects.
The week wasn’t all work, though — both apprentices also joined a few of our own CFS apprentices for an evening out at PuttShack, where some competitive mini golf and team building made for a brilliant end to the experience.
It’s been fantastic to collaborate with TMJ on this, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming Aidan and Dylan for the next round of placements. We also look forward to returning the favour by sending some of our CFS apprentices to the TMJ workshop again soon — continuing to build well-rounded joiners with insight across the full project lifecycle.
